THE FOOD OF THE EAST
MALAYSIA
A glimpse on the world map and it is clear what is to expect from these countries. Located at the equator tropical rains are here at home and lush agriculture is seen in form of palm and rubber trees, fruits and rice. The costal waters of the Malacca straits are home to shellfish and crabs. On the eastern coast countless fisherman make their living on catching treasures of the seas.
The cuisine has evolved through many influences from traders which stopped on their journeys throughout the east. Generally Malay food can be categorized as spicy, and depending on the region variations can be observed. The north for example is heavily influenced by Thai cuisine. The south on the other hand uses Chinese, India, Arabia and to a little extend European seasonings to prepare their food.
